Enjoy the benefits of dining in Amherstburg with Amherstburg’s Passport Rewards.

A new program launched by the Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce is encouraging residents to eat locally while having a chance to win a draw containing $400 worth of gift certificates.

The participating restaurants include Armando’s (421 Sandwich St. S), Caldwell’s Grant (269 Dalhousie), Ducks on the Roof (1430 Front Road South), Duffy’s Tavern (306 Dalhousie St.), Lord Amherst (273 Dalhousie St.), Meadow’s by the Lake (9278 County Rd #41), Moe’s Smokehouse (67 Murray St.), and Riccardo’s (238 Dalhousie St).

Each time you dine at one of the participating restaurants and order an entrée you earn a reward stamp. Collect three stamps from Oct. 5 to December 11you can be eligible for a draw. The lucky winners will receive a bouquet of restaurant gift cards valued at $400. The passports can be obtained at any of the participating restaurants.

Each restaurant was asked to come up with a “Harvest Menu” that will feature local products during harvest season.

“This area has some great produce so I’m sure those dishes will be delicious,” said Chamber of Commerce office administrator Karen Girard.

Rob Tymec from Monkey with a Typewriter will be visiting some of the participating restaurants to share ghost stories with the guests and to promote his ghost tours which run every Friday with brave souls meeting at the Towne Square fountain.

According to Girard this initiative stems from local restaurants wanting to have Dalhousie St. closed off for the Wine Festival.

“The business owners wanted to do something to promote not only the restaurants downtown but all restaurants involved,” said Girard.

Girard stated that October would be a good time to “push forward” with the event because harvest time is a great time for meals.”

“Amherstburg has become a restaurant mecca with so much to choose from. The Tales and Tastes event is an exciting project where each restaurant is really taking their fall menus with themed entertainment to the next level. It will be a fun and interesting experience for patrons” exclaims Chef Laura Clarke–Giberson from participating Caldewell’s Grant restaurant.

“It’s a good idea having all the restaurants work together and try to bring Amherstburg to the next level,” said Rick Maltese, owner of Riccardo’s.
