The 23 members of the Catz Meow Competitive Dance Team, who range in age between five and 16 are proving that Amherstburg’s got talent.    They are preparing for their biggest event of the season, National Finals in July.

After competing at three regional competitions in Dearborn, Detroit and Chatham, the team qualified for National Finals to be hosted by Shine Dance Competition in Huntsville.

“I can’t say enough about this talented young group of dancers,” says head coach Catherine Cristofaro, owner of the Catz Meow Dance Education Centre.  “My competitive assistant coaches and I are so proud of them and all of their success at the regional level so far.  Heading to Nationals is a great opportunity and we plan on bringing some big awards home to Amherstburg!  It is so inspiring and a true honour to be their head coach.”

While at Finals, the team will be taught by nationally and internationally renowned dancers like those seen on

The Catz Meow competitive dance team is heading to the national finals in Huntsville this July.

“So You Think You Can Dance Canada.”  They’ll dance alongside children from across the country and compete for trophies and up to $14,000 in cash prizes.

So far, their hard work has paid off.  Among others, they’ve received “Gold”, “Judge’s Choice” and “Entertainment Award” for their routines.  Members of the team have been recognized as “All-Stars” during their day-long workshops.  One dancer, Ellie Vipond was chosen among her peers to receive special recognition for her hard work in ballet.

Representing the area also comes at a cost.  Travel expenses, costumes, workshops and competition fees all add up.  Their premier fundraising event, a dinner show was sold-out last year.  This year they’ve moved to a bigger venue.

They’ll perform their award-winning routines in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and lyrical at Villanova Festival Theatre.  Afterward, guests will enjoy a full menu prepared by the Villanova Culinary Arts Students.  The event takes place on April 13th.  For more information, call 519-730-1866, email thecatzmeowdance@hotmail.com or find the event on Facebook.
