Business Excellence Awards Dinner Nov. 2

By Joel Charron

The Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for their Annual Business Excellence Award Dinner held on Nov. 2 at the United Communities Credit Union Complex (UCCUC).

The award dinner doubles as the Chambers general meeting where members of the Chamber of Commence will vote on a new Board of Directors.

“There will be a couple of changes to the board because a couple of people are stepping down,” said Chamber of Commerce office administrator Karen Girard. “

Girard said the Chamber chose the UCCUC because they needed a large area to fit everyone and the UCCUC seemed like the ideal spot.

“It is new and it is a nice facility. It’s just somewhere different,” she said.

Past venues of the Business Excellence Award Dinner included, Fox Glen and the Verdi Club.

With the UCCUC not having the capabilities to cater a banquet, the Chamber sent out a tender to local restaurants to cater the event with Riccardo’s Italian Restaurant being awarded the tender.

The award categories for 2011 include, small business of the year, Large Business of the Year, Excellence in Customer Service Award, Community Service/Community Involvement Award, Most Attractive Improvement Award, Business Legacy/Longtime Service Award, Growth and Expansion Award, Invest in a World Class Workforce Award – Workforce Windsor Essex Award and Directors Choice.

Girard added that they rely on the public to nominate business.

“All people have to do is pick up a nomination form,” explained Girard. “It gives the people in town a chance to vote for a business they think deserves some recognition.”

Nomination forms can be picked up at the Chamber office within the Gordon house and returned to the same place.

The awards banquet is one of the biggest nights for the Chamber of Commerce and according to Girard, “it gives the Chamber a chance to showcase what they have done.

“The Chamber is getting more and more active in the community and getting out and talking to people,” she said. “It’s our chance to connect with the businesses and see where they are at.”

Tickets for the Business Excellence Awards Dinner can be purchased at the Gordon House for $35 (plus HST).
