The blade of Amherstburg Stars midget major forward Cory Burns was on fire last Friday night as he helped lead his team to victory.

The pesky winger torched the Erie North Shore Storm with four goals while also grabbing an assist in the Stars’ convincing 10-1 victory.

Early in the first period it was Burns that would open the scoring off a faceoff win by centre Colin Leardi. Just two minutes later, the Stars would go up a pair as Mitch Holden found an opening and tucked the round rubber barely inside the post.

In the second period, the Stars had total puck possession as they had their biggest offensive period this year by notching six goals in the frame.

Jacob Damico and Burns each tallied twice and Anthony Cristofaro and Robert Lavoie picked up singles as goalie Thomas Demarco was rarely tested.

At the four-minute mark of the third period, the Storm responded with their only marker but a Michael Ciccone shot resulted in rebound that a trailing Anthony Cristofaro buried in the top corner and a quiet backhander from Burns would cap off the 10-1 victory for the hometown Stars.

The Stars’ improved their Bluewater League record to 9-1-1 on the season. The midgets go on the road for games versus Belle River and Windsor this weekend.
