Bulldogs grab number one ranking in Wilson Conference

The General Amherst Bulldogs are exactly were they thought they should have been before last week’s game.

Sitting on top of the ranking in the number one spot.

The WECSSAA Football Tipster Facebook page released the Wilson rankings Monday evening with the Bulldogs jumping two spots to the conference’s top team.

“Only one team gets to have this feeling, and in your final year at a school you call your home. It’s the strongest motivation you can imagine,” said Amherst cornerback Mike McNorgan.

With the number one ranking, the bulls eye on the back of the Bulldogs just got bigger but running back Corey Bezaire said if the team continues to perform like they did against Essex, hanging on to the top spot won’t be a problem.

“As a team we have to continue to perform at a high level and prove why we deserve our rank,” said Bezaire. “We are going to have to come ready to work everyday at practice, never underestimate our opponent and come to play every week.”

McNorgan added that although the captains will provide the leadership, the entire team would have to come together.

“It won’t just be the captains that guide us through tough situations, but a collaboration of every individual and what they have to offer,” explain McNorgan.

Now the Bulldog have the number one top, they are looking to keep it all season.

“We want to keep this ranking more than anything else,” said McNorgan. “That’s just as much the objective as claiming WECCSAA, SWOSSA, and OFSSA.”

“It will take a lot of work, but with this team we will have no problem doing so,” added Bezaire.
