Bulldogs capture Pepsi Challenge Robbie Jones Invitational

The General Amherst senior boys basketball team won the Pepsi Challenge Robbie Jones Invitational this past weekend with a resounding 84-37 victory over Sandwich in the final.

In earlier contests they defeated Cardinal Carter and Essex. Dylan Jaber was selected as the team’s tournament MVP.

In the their first game, Amherst took a 26-point lead into halftime and coasted to a 69-47 victory over Cardinal Carter. Max Reiner had 19 points, Macaul Reiner and Joel Wilson had 13 each and T.J. Wilson had 10.

In their game against Essex, Amherst started slowly but eventually got their transition game going and defeated Essex 64-35. Max Reiner had 17 points, Joel Wilson had 12 Dylan Jaber had 10, and Matt Bondy, Macaul Reiner and T.J. Wilson all had eight points each.

In the championship game, a slow start had Amherst down 12-10 early but they eventually picked up their defense and were able to go on and defeat Sandwich 84-37. Macaul Reiner led the scoring with 20, Joel Wilson had 16 including a monster dunk, Dylan Jaber and Max Reiner had 15 each T. J. Wilson had 13 and Matt Bondy had five.
