Bob-lo Island Classics to be held to Aug. 13

By Joel Charron

Car enthusiasts are in for a treat.

Bob-lo Island along with Xcentrick Autosports will be hosting the Bob-lo Island Classics on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.

The Bob-lo Island Classic car event is a unique event which features a number of high end vehicles that have been invited to be on display. Amongst the many vehicles there will be race cars, drag racing cars, hot rods, muscle cars and many more. Motorcycles and boats will also be on display.

Jessie Darmon, manager of marketing and promotion for Xcentrick Autosports said the reason why the cars were by invite only, was because they wanted to offer the public a “premiere event.”

“It raises the caliber of the event,” said Darmon.

There will be a number of specialty vehicles scheduled to be there that day. Steve Plunkett, a renowned Cadillac collector, is bringing his 1932 Dual cowl. This is an exceptional example of one of the finest V-12’s in existence today. It was the center spread car in the Cadillac’s collectors guide book and one of General Motors’ prized pieces until its’ sale to the Plunkett Collection.

One of the Richard Petty Recreation racecars from the late 1960’s will be travelling in from Indiana.

An Official Indy (Buick) pace car from the 1975 Indy 500. It has spent its entire life in Sarnia Ont.

The Michigan Mopar Club will be showing off 1968-70 Chargers that have won a number of Best of Show awards.

A great example of the 1965 Ramchargers drag race Dodge will be in attendance.

There are a number of Best of Show winners (from local shows) including Ron Jones spectacular 1957 Chevy, as well as, many others.

Xcentrick Autosports will have the recent winner of the PPG Paints 2012 calendar search; a 1934 Ford Coupe will be on display.

Darmon mentioned the event is also a way for the Island to gain more exposure.

“What this is really meant to do is showcase the Island,” said Darmon. “We want to bring people back to Bob-lo that haven’t been there in a long time and new people that haven’t heard of it to come over and take a look. If you thought that you would never make it back to Bob-lo Island, this is your chance.”

Guests will be able to munch on classic car show foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs and French fries. There will also be wine tastings and sit down meals as well.

Entertainment will include Jody Raffoul, Martene Sementilli and Kerri Brown.

A shuttle service will be available at Wal-Mart to take people to the Island. The cost of the shuttle is $15 for adults and free for those 12 and under. People can also walk up to the ferry and cross over to Bob-Lo for $10.

All proceeds from the Bob-Lo Island Classics car show event will go to the Rotary Club of Amherstburg.

“We hope everyone comes out and has a great time,” said Darmon.

Would never attend a show my vehicles were not welcome to! Is this Autorama?? I think the Amherstburg car show is representation of just how many and how nice local hotrods are! Respect to all the car builders doing it for the passion and building their dream car on their own dime!
