The Big Creek Hockey League (BCHL) concluded another season with Big Creek Farms pulling an 4-1 upset win over John D’Alimonte Remax in the championship game last Wednesday evening.

Big Creek Farms scored the first two goals before John D’Alimonte cut into the lead with their first goal of the game but Big Creek Farms answered with two more quick goals enroute to the championship.

BCHL president Andrew Braithwaite said it was a good year for the league, growing to six teams in 2012/2013 opposed to four teams the previous year.

“It’s been a really good year,” said Braithwaite. “Everything went fast and the skill level was better than in the past couple of years.”

Braithwaite thanked the sponsors, Big Creek Farms (yellow), Coulson Custom Homes (black), Dan Kane (blue), Titan Tree Care (grey), Amherstburg Flowers and Gifts (red), and John D’Alimonte (white) for stepping up to the plate and supporting the BCHL.

“Our sponsors are big part of this league,” said Braithwaite. “Without them we don’t have a league.”

Kyle Burns took home the regular season scoring title with 42 points (27 G, 15A) followed by Ted Jacobs with 40 points (17 G 24A) and Wes Ewer with 39 points (23 G, 16 A).

Braithwaite mentioned the BCHL ran “smoothly” with minor hiccups here and there but added there may a few changes for next years season.

Mainly, the introduction of a disciplinary committee to help curtail the unnecessary rough plays in the non-contact league.

“Having a disciplinary committee will help out a lot,” he said.
