The Amherstburg Stars bantam major team captured their division’s OHF tournament in Woodstock over the weekend by defeating the Clarkson Hurricanes in the finals.

The Stars downed the Hurricanes 7-3 Sunday afternoon, avenging a 4-1 loss to Clarkson that occurred Saturday night. A scoring summary was not available for Sunday’s game but Trevor Beneteau had the lone Amherstburg goal in the Saturday night contest.

The Stars’ only other Sunday game was a 7-3 win over the host Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets. Team captain Bryce McGregor scored four goals to lead the way for Amherstburg while David Desormeaux, Jacob DeLuca and John Anthony Giannotti also scored.

The Stars had actually lost three straight tournament games at one point as prior to the 4-1 loss to Clarkson, Amherstburg lost a 2-1 decision to Woodstock Saturday morning and a 4-1 game to the Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds last Friday afternoon. Jack Jacey had the only goal for the Stars in the Woodstock game while Franco Morrone scored in the game against Temiskaming Shores.

The Stars opening game was last Friday morning and they captured a 1-0 win over the North London Nationals. Jacey had the only goal in that contest while Catalin Morin picked up the shutout.
