Amherstburg police investigating fatal accident

 

(UPDATE — Friday, Nov. 18 — Amherstburg police have now identified the 30-year-old man that was struck and killed Thursday morning. Investigation has indicated the victim is 30-year-old Adam Pouget of Amherstburg. Amherstburg police stated Friday that Pouget was either walking or riding a skateboard near the shoulder of the westbound lane  on his way to work to a job site in Amherstburg with Tilbury Concrete. He was struck and killed by an eastbound silver Ford Focus that police say was passing another vehicle on County Road 18. Police say that visibility conditions were “extremely poor” due to fog. Speed and weather conditions are factors in the crash, police add. The driver of the Focus, a 23-year-old Amherstburg man, has been charged with adult causing death by criminal negligence. The driver was released on a promise to appear and has a Dec. 20 court date.)

 

The Amherstburg Police Service is currently investigating a collision that occurred Thursday morning.

Amherstburg police confirmed that a 30-year-old Amherstburg man was fatally struck on County Road 18 (Simcoe St.) at approximately 6:40 a.m. He was struck by a 2011 Ford Focus that was travelling eastbound, driven by a 23-year-old Amherstburg male.

According to the Amherstburg Police Service, the Focus was attempting to pass another vehicle when it struck the 30-year-old male in the westbound lane. Police say the 30-year-old male was travelling westbound on a skateboard.

The Amherstburg Fire Department tweeted at 7:22 a.m. that the road had been closed. Police had County Road 18 closed between Meloche Road and Concession 4 South but stated the road was re-opened around 12:25 p.m.

Visibility is believed to have been a factor, police add.

The area had been blanketed with fog this morning.

The 30-year-old male was pronounced deceased on scene. The 23-year-old driver of the Focus was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Amherstburg police say the investigation is ongoing and have yet to release the name of the victim. No further information was available as of 1:20 p.m. Thursday.
