A steak kick off dinner will be held on Saturday, June 22 at the AMA Sportsmen’s Club at 6 p.m.  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Sportsmen’s Club.

With the tournament entering its 30th year, AMA club president Rodney Ferriss said the Club wanted to do something a little special for the participants.

“In years past, we gave the winner of the grand door prize a choice between an ATV or an boat and trailer,” he said. “This year we are giving away both to the winner.”

The ATV is a CAN AM 500 XT sponsored by Larry Renaud RV & powersports and the Starcraft 16 SF-DLX boat, Suzuki Motor and trailer is sponsored by Happy Days Boating Centre.

Ferriss added that one lucky fishermen could win a $30,000 voucher from Racicot Chrysler towards a 2013 RAM Truck by catching a “tagged fish.”

“With the help of a biologist we tagged three fish. The three tag numbers are mailed off to an insurance company before the event then they will select one number and mail it back to us,” said Ferriss. “Nobody is going to know the number until the day of the awards party.”

The annual walleye tournament draws roughly more than 500 fishermen from across Essex County. Ferriss said their tournament attracts so many people is because people feel they are getting their bang for their buck.

“For $30 you have a chance to win prizes that are worth $10,000,” he said. “

Ferriss also added all the proceeds made go right back into the tournament.

“We are always trying to find ways to make it better,” he said.

No tickets will be sold after 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 27.
