The Amherstburg Admirals are turning to Shania Twain, Stevie Nix and Thrill Group to help raise some funds.

Well, acts that resemble those artists anyway.

The Admirals, in association with the Canadian Tire store in Amherstburg, will be presenting “Legends Live!” at the Verdi Club with tribute artists to Nix, Twain and Thrill Group, the latter performing the sounds of Motown, at the Verdi Club Feb. 8.

“It’s a fundraiser for us. A team like ours operates on a big budget,” explained Admirals’ co-owner and team president Gaspare Spada.

Spada said they not only gain revenue on the gate and sponsorships but fundraisers as well. He said the upcoming fundraiser is a good way for the community to interact with the Jr. C franchise and credited general manager/head coach Greg Prymack for coming up with the idea.

“It’s a fun way the family can get involved,” said Spada. “We plan on making it an annual event.”

The Admirals hope for 300-400 people that night. Spada said the support at games has been good this season, noting crowds are more than the 120 per game they were getting in Kingsville last season. The Admirals are attracting 450 people per game, second in the Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey League to Essex (557).

“The attendance has been really great,” said Spada.

Spada believes the crowds will get louder as the years progress.

“As they feel it’s their team, I’m sure it’ll get louder in there,” he said.

Volunteers are still welcome to help out at home games and special events, Spada added. People can get involved by e-mailing info@amherstburgadmirals.com.

Tickets for “Legends Live!” are available at the Libro Credit Union Centre (formerly the UCCU Complex), the Verdi Club or through players and executive of the Admirals. Cost is $40 per ticket and includes buffet chicken and pasta dinner plus the entertainment. Further information can be gathered by calling 519-796-1840, 519-997-3187 or www.legendslivetribute.com.
