The Amherstburg Admirals are hitting the links later this month to help support themselves on the ice.

The Admirals are hosting the first annual “Labour Day Classic” golf tournament Aug. 30 at Sutton Creek Golf Club. General manager Wes Ewer said proceeds from the tournament will go back into the hockey club as he said the team wants to take care of the players as much as possible and create an atmosphere that makes them want to play in Amherstburg.

Ewer pointed out that a lot of the players will either be golfing or on the course helping with the tournament so other participants will get an opportunity to interact and meet them.

“A lot of hockey players golf or pretend they golf,” joked Ewer.

Sanson Estate Winery is bringing out a Cadillac Escalade golf cart that day with the use of it for the round to be raffled off, Ewer added. The cart is fully equipped and an officially licensed GM product.

Cost to play is $125 per golfer with a steak dinner to follow. The 18-hole scramble starts at 1 p.m. To register, contact Ewer at Ewer noted they can accept credit card payment as well as cash prior to the golf tournament.
