The Amherstburg Admirals held their first annual “Labour Day Classic” golf tournament last Saturday with it being considered a good result for the first year.

Approximately 40 golfers took part in the tournament, held at Sutton Creek Golf Club, with general manager Wes Ewer adding that an additional ten people joined for dinner with another ten helping out during the day.

“I was extremely happy with the turnout,” he said.

The community was supportive of the tournament, Ewer continued, with the players helping to run it as well.

“It was awesome to see,” said Ewer.

There were 19 prizes for 40 golfers, with Ewer stating that made the odds better of golfers taking home a prize. The foursome of Lonnie, Jordan, Kyle and Andrew Luciw were the overall winners.

Ewer added that the team was pleased with how they were accommodated by Sutton Creek, from the golf tournament itself right through to the steak dinner that followed.

“They do it right, for sure,” he said.

Proceeds from the event, which weren’t finalized as of press time, will benefit operations of the Great Lakes Jr. C hockey club.

“This is definitely a huge help,” Ewer added, estimating a $2-3,000 final total.
