Amherstburg residents hopped around to five local restaurants last Wednesday night to eat, drink and give back to the community.

Amherstburg Community Services held their second bi-annual Amherstburg Wine ‘n Hop May 11. Those in attendance were treated to a beverage and food item from The Dalhousie Bistro, The Cellar, Beacon Ale House, The Artisan Grill and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 157 during the pub crawl-style event. ACS executive director Kathy DiBartolomeo said the evening was a great way to bring awareness to the services they provide to the community.

“But it’s also a night to showcase Amherstburg, especially with the new slogan ‘Amherstburg, You’ll Love it Here,’” DiBartolomeo said. “We think it’s a great way to work together.”

The popularity of the Wine ‘n Hop has grown since the inaugural crawl. Around 80 people attended last Wednesday night, compared to 50 participants last fall. With growing numbers comes ACS’s desire to continue making the Wine ‘n Hop a bi-annual event.

“We’re just happy to showcase Amherstburg and bring awareness to all the services we provide in town,” said DiBartolomeo. “We’re grateful for the support of all the local businesses and the people participating.”

Funds raised throughout the night will be put toward supporting some of the events ACS puts on through the year such as their Backpack Giveaway and Family Fun Day, where students receive free school supplies, and Stuff a Stocking for a Senior.

DiBartolomeo said ACS hopes to have raised $2,000 during this installment of the Wine ‘n Hop. For more information about their services, visit the ACS website at www.amherstburg-cs.com.
