“I think it’s a nice milestone in the history of Amherstburg Community Services,” remarked executive director Kathy DiBartolomeo.

The agency has actually been around slightly longer than that, but was officially incorporated 40 years ago.

“It was actually formed in June of 1973,” said DiBartolomeo.

ACS offers over 20 programs and services out of its location, including financial, counseling and seniors services. They also offer Meals on Wheels and the Care-A-Van. Their bus service has recently been expanded to help counter the loss of the town’s only taxi service.

ACS also drew the winner of its recent 50/50 draw. The winner of $845 was Amherstburg resident June Boussey. DiBartolomeo said ACS’ plans for their share still has to be brought before the agency’s board of directors, but there is a possibility of using the money towards efforts to save for a new vehicle.
