ACOC’s Mardi Gras moving to the Verdi Club next month

The Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce (ACOC) brings a touch of New Orleans back to town next month.

ACOC logo ACOC president Ray Bezaire said moving the event to the Verdi Club allows the chamber to save money on the event, which in turn, will see savings passed on to those that choose to attend.

Tickets this year are $35 if purchased by the end of May and $40 if bought after that. That is down from the $50 charged last year, said Bezaire.

“With a new venue, we’ve had cost savings that we can pass down to the public,” said Bezaire.

Bezaire added that while cost is down, the entertainment and food will stay at the same level it has been at in previous years. The band “Dream Catcher” will return again this year and the ACOC is hiring entertainment consistent with a Mardi Gras theme.

The event will be held outdoors in the Verdi Club pavilion and under additional tents that will be erected.

“Once you are there, it’s going to feel exactly as well as it did on (Boblo) Island,” said Bezaire.

The earlier people buy tickets, the more choice people have when the purchase tickets, he added. Tickets are being sold exclusively at Canadian Tire where seating arrangements can be taken care of at the same time. The aim is to sell 600 tickets and Bezaire said tickets have sold “fairly quick” in years past.

Sponsorships are also available, Bezaire stated, with businesses and individuals interested invited to call ACOC general manager Monica Bunde at 519-736-2001.

Proceeds that are raised will help the ACOC, he said.

“Any funds raised at Mardi Gras go back into the town and the Chamber of Commerce to support the initiatives we do,” said Bezaire.

Initiatives include economic development opportunities, showcasing businesses and networking events amongst the local business community.
