Minor Windsor Football Association (MWFA) is looking for players to fill their Amherstburg Pee Wee team.

“We’re looking to get more players for our Amherstburg Pee Wee team,” said MEFA board member Christine Rosati.  “Players must be ages 12-13 as of December 31.”

The Amherstburg Timberwolves Pee Wee team will be coached by returning head coach Jim McMahon. The hometown squad has roughly 10 returning players, who made it to the finals last season. Rosati said the team needs at least 32 players on the roster.

For returning players the registration date is Sunday, April 15 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. For new players, registration dates are April 29, May 6, May 27 and June 3. All four days fall on a Sunday and all dates are 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Registration is at the Fogolar Furlan Pavilion on 1800 EC Row, North Service Rd.

Cost is $200 for the first player and $175 for any additional players, plus a $150 equipment deposit, which could be paid by cheque or credit card.

All registered players will receive a game jersey, game socks, water bottle, backpack, 5” by 7” team photo, car decal, yearbook and a banquet at the end of the season.

Players must be present to be properly fitted with equipment and will receive their helmets and shoulder pads that day.

MWFA board member Dino Rosati said it would be unfortunate if the Pee Wee had to fold, considering its success the past few years.

“We don’t want to see the team fold,” said Dino. “That’s the last thing that we want to see happen.”

Rosati said that playing a team sport such as football teaches children life lessons at an early age.

“It teaches kids about self-confidence and teaches them how to work as a team,” she said.
