26th Annual Garden Tour and Fair this weekend

By Jolene Perron

The Amherstburg Fort Malden Horticultural Society is encouraging everyone to stop and smell the roses at their 26th annual Garden Tour and Fair this weekend.

This year’s Garden Tour will begin at the new United Communities Credit Union Complex on Meloche Road.

“I think it will be quite beneficial being at a nicer venue … it will attract more people,” said Al Gignac, president of the Amherstburg Fort Malden Horticultural Society.

Tickets to take part in the Garden Tour will be sold at the door for $10 each. All proceeds from the Garden Tour go right back into the town to benefit our beautiful hanging baskets, planters and parks such as the Kings Navy Yard Park.

The Garden Tour itself will include 10 beautiful gardens. From the downtown areas to the concession roads, the Garden Tour has something for anyone. May they be a young budding gardener looking for a little inspiration to begin their own garden or an older experienced gardener looking for new ideas to add to their garden, the Garden Tour is sure to catch everyone’s eyes.

The Amherstburg Fort Malden Horticultural Society also invites everyone to stay at or return to the United Communities Credit Union Complex and enjoy the Garden Fair. The fair is free admission, running the same time as the Garden Tours from 10am until 4pm. The Garden Fair will include many other events such as the Plant Auction, the Rose Show, Youth programs and so much more. There will also be a raffle with many prizes such as a bubbling rock garden feature, donated by Aquatic Gardens. Tickets will be $2 each or 3 tickets for $5.

The weather predicted for the weekend of the 28th will be sunny and warm, so come out and enjoy the beautiful sights and support our town. Also look for the full page ad in this week’s paper on Page 23.
