Now is the time to dig out those old shoes just lying around.

This year, General Amherst is hosting their annual shoe drive, running from April 17 to May 1.

The winning class to bring in the most shoes, will win a pizza party. All shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls, which is a charity that works to donate shoes to the unfortunate.

There will be a public bin in the lobby of General Amherst and the school’s student council will be in contact with the arena and other public places. All shoes are welcome, shoes may be used as long as they are still wearable.

“This is for a great cause,” said Miya Taylor, student council’s deputy prime minister. “Shoes are a very important necessity that not all are fortunate enough to have.”

Her thoughts on a reasonable request add up to 1,240 pairs of shoes, with the hopeful assumption that each student would bring in at least two pairs.

“Donating to a good cause always brings a good feeling because you know that you’re helping to make a difference,” said Taylor.

So before you head out for the donation bins, drop off your used but clean shoes at the donation bin in the lobby of General Amherst High School.
