Terry Sawchuk, present of the Amherstburg Soccer Club, said this was the fourth year they have hosted the festival. He noted the tournament is getting bigger every year as it started with 30 teams in its first year.

“This year, we’ve had 59 teams,” said Sawchuk. “It’s definitely growing.”

Overall, the Amherstburg Soccer Club has over 600 members with that including house league players and players on the Amherstburg Fusion travel teams. There are ten Fusion teams this season.

The weekend tournament featured players and teams from all over Windsor-Essex County as well as one team from Chatham-Kent. He believed the amount of teams and players was good for the town, and credited town staff with keeping the fields in great condition.

Sawchuk said people from other associations regularly say that they wish they had a complex like Amherstburg’s.

“It’s nice to be on the same page as the town,” he said.

There were four Amherstburg teams that competed Saturday with three more in action last Sunday.
